Gun Lake, Michigan 2004

Well, here is my trip to Gun Lake Hoverin. This hoverin was put together by Mike Lynch getting people in the area with crafts or an interest in hovercrafts to have some fun.

When I got there, we slid the craft off the trailer and I jumped in and went for a quick blast. I wasnt getting full throttle due to fuel starvation but my friend figured we were doing 50-55mph on that rough ice with the two of us in there. I figure we burnt about 4 gallons in about an hour.

The other crafts there were a homebuilt Subaru powered craft owned by Don Bender that did the standing 1/8th mile at 47 mph and had a top speed run at 68mph with two people and belts slipping.

The other craft is a Weber owned by Mike Lynch, powered by a 25hp Kohler OHV V-twin thrust engine. He said he could go about 100 miles on 6 gallons of gas and go 50mph. The craft weighs about 450-500 lbs.

As you can see the metal skid got hooked and bent back. I couldn't take it off before, now it's coming off!

While trying to put my craft on the trailer, the skids caught the and folded back and forced the ramp down and it folded up and broke off. I knew something wasnt right when the ramp came down and started crushing my foot just as it was folding up. With the help of a few guys, we lifted the heavy beast and put it on the trailer.

This is the burn mark left by the muffler on the back of the seat. Not too bad in the winter but I found it in the summer after two trail runs. My friend found it excessively warm and uncomfortable. I didn't notice except for the smell of fiberglass burning. Now I gotta make me a heat sheild.

And now for some repairs and improvements.
